Steven Pillemer is a veteran South African writer who began his career in theatre. He cut his teeth in daily drama and has been involved in head-writing, story lining, script editing and script writing over nine hundred episodes of SA TV including shows such as JACOB’S CROSS, ZONE 14, INKABA ISIBAYA, ZABALAZA, GOLDDIGGERS, GREED & DESIRE and SCANDAL. Steven has also worked on several dramas and co-created and worked as a development executive on two original dramas, HOUSE KEEPERS and HARVEST, the latter of which was nominated for best drama at the 2018 South African Film and Television Awards. The most recent drama, GOOD MEN, of which Steve lead wrote two seasons is due to TX on SABC late 2021. Steven’s debut film; POP LOCK ‘N ROLL, a dance film, premiered in 2017 after which he went on to co-write political thriller UNCOVERED in 2019. Both films are currently available on Netflix and his third, COURTING ANATHI (p. Rififi Pictures), a rom-com, is due to hit South African theatres later this year. His fourth, NOT JOE’S WEDDING goes into prep 2021. Steven recently finished writing two original shows (6 parts) for Netflix one of which is in post and the other is currently in prep. Meanwhile Steven’s developing a handful of original tv and feature projects on spec and with SA producers – from epic world-building fantasy to near-fi action thrillers and romcoms Steven is adept at crafting character driven genre with big hooks.
