Reabetswe “Rea” Rangaka is a South African writer, director, and actor from Johannesburg renowned for his versatile contributions to Film and Television. Rea received his undergraduate degree in Theatre & Performance at the University of Cape Town and completed his Master’s in film Directing from Chapman University as a Fulbright Scholar. Throughout his career, he has directed and worked on award-winning productions and short films in South Africa including Netflix’s SAVAGE BEAUTY, and UNSEEN S2, MTV’s SHUGA DOWN SOUTH, and Fremantle’s REYKA aka SUGAR CANE KILLINGS S2 among many others. Rea’s debut feature film came in 2016 with THE LUCKY SPECIALS which was screened at the 2017 San Francisco Black Film Festival and earned recognition at the 2018 South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA) for Best Made-for-TV Movie. Rea’s interests lie in stories about underrepresented identities or tales of people who live on the periphery, particularly Black stories through the prism of a “post-liberated” youth in South Africa. Rea is currently writing his own feature entitled END OF THE RAINBOW and has several shows in various phases of development.
