Justine cut her teeth directing, writing and producing various documentary series, including Carte Blanche and Carte Blanche Africa where she worked as a journalist for 6 years. In 2010 Justine wrote SURFING SOWETO (directed by Sara Blecher and Dimakhatso Raphoto) which won Best Documentary Feature at the 2012 SAFTAS and Best Local Film at the Tri Continental Film Festival 2010. She has written on various television dramas, including WHEN WE WERE BLACK S02 (Headwriter); AYEYE, two seasons of ERFSONDES (both won Best Scripts, ATKV), TRAFFIC! (SAFTA Best Drama Writing nominee) and others. She has over a hundred hours of telenovela writing credits to her name, including ISITHEMBISO (winner of the SAFTA for Best Writing Team) and BROKEN VOWS (SAFTA Best Writing nominee). Justine spent 18 months doing story development work for Showmax on shows with a local heart and international reach and spent a year as Head of Script Development (feature films) at Videovision. Recent work includes writing and assistant producing the Christmas movie HERB & MOON (aired on Showmax and M-Net Christmas 2020); writing on a new Netflix Africa Originals series (in post-production), and on a documentary series on anti-apartheid activist Neil Aggett (in production). Currently, she is writing a narrative non-fiction film for celebrated South African artist Roger Ballen and is working alongside Craig Freimond on an original Nigerian film for the prolific Mo Abudu and Ebony Life Studios. Justine graduated from WITS University with a BADA Honours cum laude and a major in English with distinction.
